They are spending the festive season with the Atlantic Ocean separating them, but Prince Harry may still have been buying his girlfriend Meghan Markle a last minute Christmas gift.

The prince, fifth in line to the British throne, was seen doing a spot of shopping at Opium in Chelsea. The Indian store sells antiques, jewellery, crafts, furniture and kaftans. It is thought he could have been looking for an extra gift for the Suits actress, 35.

Ms Markle is set to head to India in January to launch a girls programme she has been involved in as part of her work with World Vision, of which she is an ambassador. However, either the prince left the shop with something small enough to fit into his pockets, or he left without anything taking his fancy as he did not hve a shopping bag.

The Prince will soon be heading to Sandringham to celebrate Christmas with other senior members of the royal family at the Norfolk estate. It is thought to be much too soon for Ms Markle to get an invite from the Queen, as the two have only been together for a few months.

However, the Queen is said to be very supportive of her grandson’s new relationship, and is pleased to see him so happy. Even though Ms Markle and Prince Harry are spending Christmas Day itself with their respective families, they managed to pack lots of festive activities into a trip to London for Ms Markle. They were spotted out buying a Christmas tree together for Prince Harry’s apartment at Kensington Palace, as well as enjoying a trip to the theatre.

Prince Harry personally escorted Ms Markle to Heathrow so she could catch a flight back to Toronto, where she films Suits. The couple will then be planning to see each other following Christmas.
