As is sadly is often the case with today’s celebrities who found fame at any early age, one of the UK’s much loved TV presenters Ant McPartlin has just admitted he is experiencing both a drink and drug addiction.

Whilst he does appear to have been onscreen at least, a functioning alcoholic, he has chosen to come out publically about his problems and he has also revealed that he is to start rehab straight away in the hope he can banish those two serious addictions from his life once and for all.

Ant is of course one part of the comedy duo Ant and Dec who have been on UK TV screen for many years now having first found fame on the children’s TV show Byker Grove, however they have always been a very busy duo since that show hand have been the main presenters on shows such as Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Britain’s Got Talent, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and also Pop Idol.

Ant did open up to the Sun Newspaper and expressed his displeasure at having let many people down recently through his drink and drug addiction including people such as his current wife Lisa Armstrong and of course his co-star Declan Donnelly , both of whom he mentions have been offering a great amount of support which he greatly appreciates.

He has stated that he plans to go into rehab for at least two months, and he says it was depression that led to him becoming addicted to prescription drugs and taking them with alcohol and he has also admitted other substance abuse problems too.

The reasons he has given for getting depression in the first place was that a couple of years ago he suffered a knee injury which led to him being prescribed drugs to treat that problem and he also says he suffered a great deal of anxiety in regards to his wife not being able to conceive.

In a statement he made public he states that ‘The first step is to admit to yourself you need help. I’ve let people down. I’m truly sorry.  I feel like I have let a lot of people down and for that I’m truly sorry. I want to thank my wife, family and closest friends through this really difficult time.”

We do know that Ant is a very popular public figure and he does have a huge army of fans all of whom will be wishing him all the very best and they will be hoping he does manage to get the results he needs whilst in rehab, which is something we always do hope he manages to do also.
