Today, President – elect said there will be no u-turn over his pledge to build a wall across the Mexico and U.S border and to make Mexico pay for it.

Politico reported that Trump was going to make Americans pay for the wall.  He tweeted later that although it was true that America would pay for the wall, they would claim the money back from Mexico.  He tweeted, “The dishonest media does not report that any money spent on building the Great Wall (for sake of speed), will be paid back by Mexico later!”

Politico reported that they wanted to start building the wall as early as April.  The plan is to use Federal tax dollars.

House Republican policy committee chairman Luke Messer, said, “There’s already in existing law the authorization for hundreds of miles of build out on the southern border.  So, one important step in the right direction will be funding the existing law and beginning the building out of hundreds of miles of wall, or fence, on the southern border.”

The act he was referring to was the 2006 Secure Fence Act passed by George W. Bush.

Messer went on to say that they would be aiming for funding to be passed by the end of April.

“It was not done in the Obama administration, so by funding the authorization that’s already happened a decade ago, we could start the process of meeting Mr. Trump’s campaign pledge to secure the border.”

The plan to extract the money from Mexico involves levelling tariffs on the country until it agrees to pay for the cost of the wall, according to a post that appeared in The Washington Post.  Current estimates as to a cost are a few billion dollars to $14 billion dollars.

It is believed that Mexicans sent up to $25bn back to Mexico last year from the U.S.
