Within hours, a swarm of humanoid robots had taken control of London. This information was passed on from HBO’s public relations, while promoting their latest series. A science-fiction drama titled, Westworld.

In front of London landmarks, there were life-size robots walking the area and terrifying onlookers. Unknown to the Britons, this was only a publicity stunt. At the same time, it displayed how Britons were in fear of having robots integrating with human society. There are more than 50% of the Britons that are against artificial intelligence. Over 40% of the population has reasons to believe that humanity will be destroyed by artificially intelligent robots, in the near future.

Outside of domination, there are concerns with the robots having dangerous malfunctions. At the same time, it is possible that robotic intelligence could exceed human intelligence and take control of human society. When research was done about having androids living amongst humans, the percentage of men that were excited about this possibility was double the amount of women that showed any excitement.

Some of the biggest concerns was the loss of jobs. Robots would eliminate the need for a salary or providing breaks and time off from work. It would increase the profits of companies and put a lot of people out of work. The few people that will keep a job are those that work in fields which is improving and repairing the robotic structures. Another concern is having to share their homes with artificially intelligent housemates.

Noel Sharkey, a robotics expert, believes that there will be an integration of robots in human society within the next 20 years. The Westworld show is based on a movie that starred Yul Brynner (1973). Michael Crichton, the mastermind behind Jurassic park, is the writer for the new series.
